Copper pipe and tubing has been a standard for plumbing systems and requires a special skill set for sweating (soldering) copper pipes and copper fittings together. Although you can do this job yourself, it will require some patience and practice well before attempting the actual work.
Copper is a natural choice for indoor plumbing because it creates a biostatic atmosphere which makes it hard for bacteria to grow inside of it. It is also very resistant to corrosion and is unaffected by ultraviolet rays, allowing for use outdoors as well. With the huge tech boom, copper has become expensive but there is an alternative called PEX which is about a 1/3 of the price of copper.
